Microstation prints raster attachment in grayscale instead of monochrome.

Hi there,

We use to print to PDF raster image attachments (old manual drawings) on cad file border with no problem as monochrome on V8 version. But, when we migrated to V8i (Series 10), PDF printed files are looking horrible? not sharp image at all. Image becomes like drawn with pencil. Can somebody help with this issue? We produce a lot of low quality drawings, and no one know how to fix it. Thanks again.

  • wow could you be less specific?

We need to know your  pdf.pltcfg  file and  all its settings and those in the print dialog

There are lots of settings one being resolution you cannot assume that your  old printer.plt  file ( pre v8i)  is using the same settings as your  current pdf.pltcfg (v8i version)

as the old one may have been heavily customised and the current one customised differently or not at all...

also your not specifying what you mean by  printed ?

    dgn>pdf > screen or paper

if eventually to paper  the printer/ plotter  can have its own parameters too ..

you check the quality of the pdf without microstation say with irfanview or similar and it will tell you the  dpi resolution  etc...

are your rasters scaled up or down .. scaling up magnifies crapiness ..

can you post listing of your settings and  maybe a copy of the raster pdf here  not the finished print... and a fake dgn you want to use the raster on and we can  try and give you a good print  back for you to compare with yours...

  • Thank you for the respond Lorys,

I will try to add print screen here of my pdf.pltcfg setting. We have attached raster image (.tif) to cad file, so it looks like Monochrome setting applies to cad only, not to the raster image.

To compare right image where Monochrome was applied and on left image Grayscale was applied,

you can see raster image wasn't change at all.

Additionally, raster (tif) image rendered in very low quality, however this image was scanned 400 dpi. 400 dpi is normally good quality scan that was used In old version of V8.

All these screens were created as pdf files using "Print to PDF" printer from Microstation, they where not printed on regular printer.

  • I want to add something here,- even if we have absolutely white raster lines on black background in Microstation, it prints on PDF as gray.

  • Hi Igor,

Can you upload the raster file and your .pltcfg file?
