MicroStation/J 07.01.05.03 Batch print/conversion to PDF

What software are using to open these Microstation J files?

Hexagon (Intergraph) PDS is used to extract pipeline isometric files from PDS 3D Models. For PDS, MicroStation/J is a prerequisite. These files are MicroStation/J files, but have extensions .i01, .i02, .i03.....so on and so forth. If a line is split into 3 sheets, then filenames will be LineName.i01, LineName.i02 and LineName.i03. Sometimes we have 30 files for a line (.i30). We have to batch convert these into PDF format.

We tried to convert MicroStation/J files to PDF using V8.

However, we are facing a new problem.

The filenames as I wrote before, is something like:

Pipelinename1.i01

Pipelinename1.i02

Pipelinename2.i01

PipeLinename3.i01

Pipelinename3.i02

In short, though they are dgn files, the extensions are .i01, .i02, .i03, .i04 so on and so forth. Some has upto 30 sheets (.i30)

While batch converting to PDF, how do we add these extensions to the converted filenames.

For example,

we need the first file as Pipelinename1_i01.pdf

the second one as Pipeline1name1_i02.pdf

Why not use Windows tools to modify the file names before you start printing?  Windows PowerShell, for example, could do that sort of thing.

Good point. However, these pipelines are updated on a daily basis, isometrics reextracted and conversion to PDF for review.

So renaming of files will also be needed on a daily basis.

Windows provides all the tools required to implement that requirement.  Ask on a Windows Forum how automatic file import and renaming can be scheduled regularly.

To put it another way, it's unrealistic to ask MicroStation's print utilities to perform a file manipulation task, when Windows is already able to do that.

why are your  dgns named that way? if they  are extracted that way cant you change the  way the  outputs are named so they fall out

Pipelinename1_i01.dgn etc  then the pdfs will be the same otherwise use bulk rename utility very easy to rename via a  pattern.. I used it slot  to rename  100s of files in one go ..takes a few seconds  or learn powershell and  make a script for reuse
