Reference clipped elements appearing in prints

I have a file where a reference is clipped (using a fence but not rectangular).  It appears fine on screen and when creating PDFs, but when I print to a printer or plotter, a hidden portion of the clipped reference is printing.  Maybe my .pltcfg is incorrect somehow?

I've attached an image (clipping.jpg) with yellow highlight showing where the reference should be clipped.  Another image showing how it should print (correct.jpg), a pltcfg file, and Sample.dgn

For now I can create a PDF then print, but I'd like to send directly to print obviously.

MicroStation 08.11.05.17

  • Thanks for posting a complete data case.  However, I was only able to download the .dgn file.  When posting multiple files it's better to post them as a single ZIP file.

I was unable to reproduce the clipping failure in MicroStation 8.11.5.17 using either the delivered printer.pltcfg, hpglrtl.pltcfg, or hpgl2.pltcfg.  So it does sound like it might be related to your printer driver configuration file (which I was unable to see), or perhaps your Windows printer driver (if you are using one).

Can you reproduce the problem using the non-customized printer driver configuration from which your .pltcfg is based?  If you are using a printer.pltcfg-variant, can you try with other Windows printers?

If this is a defect in MicroStation, then it most likely resides in the graphics display subsystem.  Bentley Support may be able to provide you with a priority build of MicroStation 8.11.5 containing a newer version of that subsystem.  I don't know if that would help you, but might be worth you filing a service ticket.

  • I am experiencing the same issue with Rasters & printing out to PDF.
  • Sorry to revive an old thread, but I just got a call from a user experiencing the same problems and I haven't found that there has been any resolution.

They have a dgn file with clipped reference attachments using a fence as the clip boundary. The clip displays correctly MicroStation, and when they print using the Print dialog. When they bring the file into Print Organizer and print the same file the reference is no longer clipped correctly.

The same pltcfg file is being used for both. I had them set the User and Project workspace options in their Print Style to match the current MicroStation setting but that did not change the result.

    They are using PowerInRoads 08.11.09.674

  • Rod,

Have you tested with “Enable Driver Clipping” set to False in the Advanced section of the .pltcfg?

  • I am having the same problem the only difference is my clipping is by element. Has this issue been resolved?
