i have a few dgn files with hi-res pdf raster attachments (location maps) I can't knock the resolution down of raster files becuase they are large maps of entire counties and the text gets washed out. Likewise I also tried to crop only the portion i needed with photoshop and the text still gets washed out in the conversion.
Attaching the pdfs and clip bounding provides great results, but when we go to create pdf files of the dgn with the rasters, they take an exhorbinant amount of time to spool ( ~1hr). Is there anything i can do to cut this time back considerably?
Thanks.
I also find extremely long wait times with PDF raster references so I therefore have told our staff to convert the PDF's to JPG's as these print much faster
This whole Raster PDF thing is still pretty hit and miss for us. Even using a HPGL2/RTL PLTCFG driver, our spooling times are rediculous. In my opinion, the printing of PDF raster was more efficient in the XM version of MicroStation. We spend more time trying waiting for drawings with PDF rasters attached than when we used Tiff files in MicroStation J......
Hi Caddcop,
There is no speed optimization that has been done for the printing of model with attached PDFs recently (i.e. : in MicroStation V8i).
The only think that has changed is that we have upgrade the PDF SDK library that actually rasterize the original PDF to raster data in MicroStation V8i SS1.
Thanks,
Mathieu
Any progress on improving this? I did find that using Rasterize does at least display a progress bar.

Mathieu,
Thanks again for the response.
When I did use the keyins, the image in the DGN did change slightly. The overall printing process had no change. I still need to check the rasterized button in order for it to print to our HP laser printers. Full size isnt a problem since we're using the HPGL2/RTL plot driver format. It also looks like we might be able to control the individual files that have PDF's attached through the print organizer so it may not be so much of an issue, but its just another setting that a user must remember to do.
Thanks again for the responses.
