Model Space within a DGN file

When working with model spaces within a DGN file, our presentation files have several model spaces that make up various stages of our presentations.  Is there anyway to have a tag of some sort printed somewhere within the printed copy that places which model space we print from?

Example:  We had a new employee that couldn't figure out which model space the a printed copy came from.

Currently on our prints, we have date, user id and file name with full path to locate the file.  However it would be nice if we also had the model space we were in when the print was created.

Any suggestions?

  • You may place a text as a field, with the model property "model name" anywhere in your design. Search the help file for text fields, very comfortable!

Advantage, you will see the information immediately not at plot stage.

  • Text Field
Passes the name of the actual file where the text field is in.
If you place it in a reference file, this will pass the name of that reference file, not the current plotsheet. It is convenient for showing true file/element info during work. I prefer this for displaying area and perimeter data.

    Pentable
Can show the name of the current location, current file and current model at print time. You can use the same reference with a border, company logo and that placeholder, regardless of its name or location. Changing a Models name will instantly translate to an updated printname. I prefer this way for print identification.

  • Hi Ivo,

harvjake , Adam and I was talking about  _MODELNAME_ and not about the file name. With text fields you may show DGN model information like the actual model name.

  • Hello Frank,

Thank you for this correction. And perhaps you could help me out as wel.
I've tried in the past to use a Text Field to identify the current location, to no avail.
I've used both _FILEL_ and _MODELNAME_ in the pentables which worked fine. But I was not able to insert _MODELNAME_ into a Text Field and have it work for me. I was able to have the Text Field pas the name of the actual reference file or model it was residing in and never the current file.

Perhaps you could clarify how you've achieved this? I'm seeing new possibilities here.

    best regards,

    Ivo Blaauw
