Print Organizer error - Unable to collect state information and internal printing error occurred...

On a particular set of drawings, when we add them to Print Organizer in MicroStation SS2, we are getting the following two messages for each of the drawings:

An internal printing error occurred: [mdlDgnFileObj_getMasterFile]

Unable to collect state information from...and then the path to the file

Then the drawings don't show up in the Print Organizer. If we add them individually, they will add to the Organizer without the errors, but then they plot blank.

These are drawings contained in ProjectWise. If we take them to the desktop, they work fine. Further, if we copy them to a different location in ProjectWise, they work fine.

  • I figured it out. It's path length. We have descriptions turned on as the primary interface. Our descriptions are long, but the actual folder names are short. We did those, so we can export out and not have a filepath length issue. When working in integrated MS/PW though, it considers the description for the path name. Our path for these drawings was 266 characters in length. Once I got it below 260, it worked correctly.

  • I'm having the same error. I count max 126 characters in the file paths. How did you figure out how many characters were in the path including the descriptions? As in: where did you see the entire path that is being considered? So far, I can only see the design file path without the descriptions included.
Also... sheets that do not have references plot just fine. Only sheets with references attached give the error and do not plot.
