No I havent - basically because I'm under the impression that it would only affect the raster images?? I havent had any in my files recently.

Because its the default out of the box from USA bentley, it doesnt look at your design file settings.. but I never heard of anyone changing it as the first line is DPI dots per inch so you expect the next line is inches... but you seem to have proved it does make a difference...

BTW did you also try the raster slider bar change tip...? Made a really big difference where I last worked as plans had mix of vector and raster in the same sheet...

it was originally inches (god knows why) and then I tried meters (as this is what we work in and that made the print RUBBISH) then changed it to cm as millimetres was still too high file size wise.

what were the settings before you changed to centimeters?

in the print attributes or settings under raster there is a slider bar that you can temporarily change the raster resolution without effecting the vector resolution, by default its 50%, try changing this to less it wont save the change or alter the driver but you can make trial and error shots to see what effect the change makes to the pdfs... both look and size... I think for an A0 print to pdf and then pdf to paper it wont make a lot of difference to the look of the paper print even if you use 25% but will make a big difference to the pdf MB size...

I was recently fiddling with the plot setting in the pdf.pltcfg file and found that if I changed the units in the "advanced" tab for the resolution to centimeters it reduced the file size dramatically I just increased the resolution and the pdf looks great. Hopefully this helps someone.

Have you tried to compress the created output PDF with full version adobe acrobat ( not reader) and use reduce file size option?

Erik, so you are not creating a 3d PDF right, it's 2d? Would it be possible to get the data to take a look here? Maybe I can figure out something else.

Thanks Dawn -Sadly it did not. I tried all the settings - it looks like I have so many line elements that is just overwhelming. I might have to play with the raster system but would prefer not to have to go that route.

Erik, when printing the drawing view, you can try turning off the options in the pdf.pltcfg that you do not need, such as searchable text, georeferencing, etc., this may cut down on the size of the PDF being created. You can also try setting the RGB raster compression to JPG in the Driver Properties section, and the resolution to 300,300 in the Advanced section. This may help as well. Let me know if this helps any.

So I noticed I was still having an issue with hidden lines so I tracked that down to the postion of the title block in the drawing - it was drawn as a block and the block was acting as a solid, I changes the boarder to lines. That seem to work. Now when I go to print and uncheck "Print to 3D" the preview times out :(
