    How to create a pen table to resymbolize a drawing's display attributes when printing

    Background

    It is rather common to require to print off a drawing mapping a different colour, line width, transparency and other attributes to a specific color displayed on screen. This can be achieved easily and with great flexibility using Microstation pen tables or modifying a Bentley plot driver.

    Steps to Accomplish

    Option 1 Create a new pen table

    1. In MicroStation select "File->Print"

    2. In the Print dialog select "Resymbolization->New Pen table" then type the name of your new pen table

    3. In the "Modify Pen Table" windows, select "Map Pen Colors"

    4. Click "Create" to create a blank color mapping table

    5. Double click on each color to open its properties dialog

    Now you can associate pen width, print color, screening, transparency and other attributes to each of Microstation's color numbers.

    You can associate the same attributes to several color numbers by selecting them and then clicking "Edit"

    You can attach the newly created pen table to all files requiring to be printed using these settings by choosing

    " File->Print" and then browsing for the pen table file in the "Resymbolization" tab.

    Option 2 Modify a Bentely Plot Driver

    1.in MicroStation select "File->Print"

    2.in the Print dialog select "File->Edit Printer Driver Configuration" then select the Bentley driver you wish to modify

    3.In the "Printer Driver Configuration" select "File->Save As" to save the driver to a different file name (keeps the original driver unchanged)

    3.In the "Printer Driver Configuration" select "Colors Maps"

    4.Tick "Define maps form  design colors to print symbology"

    5.Double click on each color to open its properties dialog

    Now you can associate pen width, print color, screening, transparency and other attributes to each of Microstation's color numbers.

    You can associate the same attributes to several color numbers by selecting them and then clicking "Edit"
