VRAY for MODO

Any plans for V-Ray plugin for MicroStation?

  • Bentley does not develop the V-Ray plug-in but Chaos Group does, they need to be contacted for this availability in MicroStation.

  • Hi,

This is something we can evaluate. I spoke to the Foundry developers about this. It should be possible to drive it through the command line in modo. They have done comparisons against VRay and the modo render engine in their product and have found that the image quality is as good and their performance is often better.

My question would be why would you prefer V-Ray over the luxology render engine ? If they are comparable in image quality and performance ?

    Regards

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

That the quality of the Luxology Render engine is equal to Vray is very interesting. Can we find this test on the internet? And are there also more objective tests where they compare these two render engines?

I'm also very interested in the settings they used.

The render engine in Modo 801 seems to be a step forward, but on the Luxology site I only see interiors with a quality which are to my opinion V-ray quality. Exteriors doesn't come even close (to my opinion). Further does V-ray have some really cool lens effects, realistic shadows (which are not only black, but also react with the color of the environment) and the lighting gives a non cgi feeling.

Cool V-ray exterior example from Chaos group website:
