Splotches and speckles are back in Connect.

Can you try going to the advanced tab of render settings and change Direct Light MIS from both to None? Or you could try setting the Direct Light Samples to 64 or more and leave the Direct Light MIS as it is. That might be the issue and this is something new that was not in V8i. We should have set the default to be None.

Let me know if that works and if it does I will make sure we change the default behavior. If it does not then you know the drill by now ......test case please;-)

That did it!

Here two results:

- Direct Light Samples: 0

- Direct Light Samples: 64 (20% render time increase)

Both with Direct Light MIS to None.

 

I must ad that some mesh mappings are different from V8i (cushing's)

The problem with the translucency is solved. Almost I'm to the correct result!

The "Fast Preview" does the right thing.

But not the final render!?

I cannot reproduce that did you perhaps do a redisplay render after the fast preview render? I got the same result with both but I clicked on the render icon rather than redisplay.

What are the Advanced Settings under "Interior Good-3"?

I cannot repro using your settings we must be out of sync somehow. Interior Good -3 with Subsurface Scattering set to both and MIS set to None.

I did edit the white reflective plastic material a bit can you try bumping the efficiency slider down a tad so that you don't have a material that reflects more light than it receives it was around 119% I set this to be 98% this changes the specular to 11 and the amount of SSS to 23.

The result is much better!

It is not the same as yours, I detect one spot.

Hi Wim,

If you set the MIS to None or Diffuse that will go away this particular hot spot is from specular and it should be there if MIS is set for Specular.

from v8i to Connect Visualization became a little bit an Alchymia, too many hidden parameters and repressed by real time modeling of e-on software, it's a time ago when Jerry published a draft about Visualization SS3 /ftp.bentley.com/.../MicroStation_Visualization_SS3.pdf
I personally think that it could be very very useful , if it possible and Jerry had energy, to add all news to new manual/tutorial or help, draft of Visualization in SS4 and last Connect, it miss me, so to understand and not to be a observer of your discussion only,
