Generate Preview in MicroStation Connect Update 4

Hi,

we have seen, that Update 4 creates a huge (over 1GB) pal-previews-file using "generate preview" for the whole palette.

You see it in the example palette "02-Fenster-Tueren.pal" in the attached image. We only have generate this palette. You see the difference between the file Size.

IMPORTANT: Can we use our V8i Materials in the Connect Edition? Or, it is necessary, that we have to create new materials for the Connect Edition?

All materials in that screenshot are V8i Materials. Is that the reason for the huge previews file?

Can someone help us?

Thanks,

Marc

  • Hi Marc,

That file would be for an external palette are using external materials and palettes?

You can delete the file either way, if you do and it is an external .pal file when you load the palette it would not have previews for those materials.

I would try deleting that file then right click on the palette in the list and choose generate previews to create a new preview file to see if it is smaller.

  • Hi Jerry,

yes, that file is for an external palette. We are using external materials. I have delete the previews-pal file with over 1GB and after the next "generate preview" the file is smaller. Why? I´m not sure...

An other question. I have attached an image where you can see that the rendering in luxology material preview is not already finished. Why is it so? I was test it also with other materials in preview widgets (cube, B-Widget).

And for us, it would be interesting to know, if we should create new materials for Connect Edition or we can take the same materials from V8i? I mean, because of the different settings (General --> Diffuse Rougness f.e.).

  • Hi Jerry,

if you display in the material editor a material with the wigdet "modothing" and the units are "master", the material is not displayed in the widget modothing. If there are the units f.e. in meters the material is displayed.

Is that right? Maybe you can test it. I was testing it with our materials and in that case with a bentley material.
