I am trying to render some models with point clouds included to give the reality modelling impression and more context to the surrounding area.
Rendering point clouds in aecosim/microstation has not been particular successful but we have had some good results in pointools.
So, what is the best way to get 3d models into pointools. Native .dgn don't import, .dwg import but don't seem to appear (I have read in a previous post that this is an issue.) I am therefore looking at the workflow from dgn to fbx in microstation. Then fbx to 3ds in 3ds max, then 3ds into pointools. I have tried this and the models don't appear in pointools?
Any help would be appreciated.
You could try processing your point clouds thru ContextCapture. This would create a reality mesh that can be used in MicroStation (i don't know about aecosim) for your rendering needs.
Here's a link to some info on processing point clouds in ContextCapture.
Mike,That's what I was afraid of.
You could try converting the .pts to e57 using a tool like CloudCompare(free software).
