"render image to file" with background-image

Hi,

is it possible to set an background-image at "render image to file"?

Or is there any other way to render the view with current view-settings with an background-image?

The image should look exactly like the current view - with an background-image.

Regards,

Mini

  • If you are rendering with Luxology you can add the background that you want to use after the render by making the environment that you are using not visible to the camera. You can also set the visible environment to use a Front Projection. We now let you have a separate environment for indirect light so that you can control the amount of light coming from the environment. When you do this the brightness slider effects the brightness of the visible layer and the brightness (amount of light) from the indirect layer offering much more control than earlier version. I wrote this blog all about environments before we added the indirect layer but you might want to read it to better understand environments and Front Projection is covered.

  • Hy Jerry,

I know the Luxology rendering, but I never get an image, that looks exactly like my current view...
How can I render with Luxology without using environment & so on?

For example, in my view I set the view to "monochrom with shadows" and I want exactly that view in my image.

  • Hi Mini,

We honor the display style in Luxology render if your view is monochrome the Luxology render will be monochrome. If you have your view using a background and you want to see it in the render you need to make sure that the environment that you are using has visible to camera turned off for the main layer.

If you want to save an image with your view setting without Luxology then just use the Save Image utility to render exactly what you see at the resolution you specify and you can use antialiasing.

  • Hi Jerry,

so I don't think there is any way to get an image the way I want it.

Because if I render with Luxology - the image looks completely different than my current view,
and with Save Image, I can't coose an background-image...

  • Hi Mini,

It would help if you could post a screen shot of your view so I would have a better idea what your are trying to achieve.

To get your background to render with save image you need to make sure you are rendering the view where you see the background image.

You should be using from view option and you probably want antialiasing as shown.

Make sure that the view attributes for the view number that your are saving image from has Background enabled.

You can use the key-in active background to open the browser dialog shown below to choose the background you want to use.

To render your view with Luxology open the Environment Manager and edit Physical Sky environment to use a background image. You will need to turn off visible to camera and select the image you want to use for the background as show below.

When you render in Luxology the image rendered is stored in a high dynamic range floating point format that requires Tone Mapping so once you have the complete render you may need to adjust the brightness slider.

One other thing I would suggest you open the Light Manager and on the Brightness tab turn on Auto Gamma Correct and my preferred Tone Mapping Mode is Brightness Adaptation you can enable that too instead of the default Brightness Multiplier. Choose File > New Setup and create a named light setup the Active Setup is not automatically saved until you do a File > Save Settings whereas the named setups are saved immediately,

    Hope this helps Cheers,

    Jerry
