I have found some useful information on conserving memory when renering on the Wiki page:
https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/9942/luxology-rendering-engine-failed
I am currently working in Bentley Descartes CE, does anyone know if this information applies to this version? I cant seem to find the geometry cache settings or any settings to save an image with luxology where I can use rendering in bands.
Thanks

Hi Wendy,
What you're looking for is here:
Backstage\Settings\User\Preferences\Render\
Other way is to type Preferences in the new find command dialog and then jump to Render.

We automatically adjust the geometry cache size in CONNECT Edition based on the amount of memory you have so you really don't have to worry about adjusting it. As far a rendering in tiles this is something you can do when saving very high resolution images using image save utility since Luxology renders in buckets there is no need to use this option with Luxology render.
Are you having a problem with Luxology render engine failing?
Cheers,
Jerry
Hi Jerry
Yes, I am finding that the larger scenes fail due to a lack of memory when I render them. I fiddled with some of the render settings, I increased the displacement ratio and displacement rate. The thing that seems to have improved the performance (stopped it failing on a render) is I set the geometry cache to 16000 (I have 32MB RAM). It renders a pretty complex scene in Exterior Good at 4800 resolution in about 13 minutes! I am sure I don't understand how all these technical bits work, but it seems that the CPU was doing more work and using about half the RAM, which did the trick.
BTW, how do you use the image save option in CE? I cant see the option to use Luxology, only the standard view display styles like wireframe, smooth etc.
You save Luxology renders from the render dialog look at floppy icon on the lower right hand corner. You can multi-select from list and save a series of images or just one at a time your choice.
