Just as the title says, I have a single piece of geometry of a metal bolt and I have created 2 materials: 1 for the head and another for the thread. I don't seem able to apply the materials to the faces I want and have the material display. All I can do is attach it to the entire element. Any idea why?
p.s. The materials are purely for display in a 3D PDF, not for rendering purposes.
Hi Barry,
Use Material\Attach instead of Material\Assign:
This way you can select each face for each material:

Hi José,
I've been using attach but the materials don't show. Query material says the face has it assigned but it doesn't show. I'm not sure if its because my materials exist in the dgn only ( I never really cared too much for Microstation's material system as its render engine is pretty poor). This is what my Material editor looks like:
All faces have had the bolt material attached except the main cylinder which has the bolt thread material.
Give me a VRayMultiSubTex texture over this any day...
Please check View Attributes [CTRL+B] and in Display Styles confirm that you have in your view Pattern Maps turn on:
Also check Level Overrides.

It appears level overrides was the problem. Thanks for the suggestion.
