Reading so many old threads about Local and External materials and I see the variable MS_DEFAULT_TO_EXTERNAL_MATERIALS mentioned frequently yet its not listed in the help file or configuration dialog, expand echo $(MS_DEFAULT_TO_EXTERNAL_MATERIALS) also yields nothing so is the variable now depreciated?

try to set it as a "new": MS_DEFAULT_TO_EXTERNAL_MATERIALS = 1

Is this variable actually needed if we have MS_LOCAL_MATERIALS = 0 (whats the difference?)
If so, why is it no longer present in SS4? (08.11.09.829)
