Open elements in LumenRT

I apologize if this has been addressed but I have been searching for quite some time and cannot find an answer.

I am trying to export a 3D model from Microstation to LumenRT. Within this model are pavement markings consisting of stenciled 3D lines and arcs. It appears LumenRT ignores these elements, similar to the luxology renderer option to ignore open elements and text.

How can I export my lane markings to LumenRT?

Thank you!

  • Hi David,

For a stenciled line to render it must be defined to have a true width, once stenciled you should see the geometry created is a mesh if you don't see that then it is not going to be visible in a render Luxology or LumenRT.

  • Jerry,

Thank you for the response. When I stencil 2D chains over 3D elements in Microstation, the resulting elements are not a mesh, but instead the chains are segmented into 3D lines and arcs. These elements do show up in Luxology when the "ignore open elements and text" check box is left unchecked in the renderer options. See below for example. The first image is a snip from a 3D model in MS, the second image is from a Luxology render.

If they show up in the image output and are not truly rendered, that's okay; however, lighting setup changes do affect how visible the elements are leading me to believe Luxology is calculating light reflection for these.

That said, I was hoping there is a similar override with LumenRT to not ignore open elements. As you stated, the elements need to have a true width. Are you aware of a quick way to convert lines and arcs to elements with width? I imagine some kind of expansion tool that allows me to specify a radius or a planar "width-from-center" as a default value for a selection set.

  • LumenRT does not support Linear elements for Luxology we cheat and export geometry for linear elements. Maybe we can look at doing that in the future but it is not currently hooked up.

    Cheers,

    Jerry
