Restoring a Corrupted LumenRT Files?

I have a LumenRT scene that I had setup.  I made a handful of updates and kept saving every 20 minutes or so.  I ran a low quality video that worked great, but was at the fast setting and I wanted to get it updated with a Fine setting.  When I tried closing the file, LumenRT crashed. When i try to reopen the scene, I get the error, "LumenRT could not open the selected scene.  Please ensure that you have enough disk space available. If you do your scene may have been corrupted."  When i closed the file ,i realized i was indeed low on disk space, which i then cleared out 10 free gigs.

I've tried copying the .bak file, to a different name and changing .lrt file, but get the same error.  Is there anything else I can try to restore my scene?

Any help would be great.  I have a public meeting tomorrow and don't have the time to set everything up again and troubleshoot, so worst case i can just use the Fast quality version.

Thanks,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

The Eon guys in Paris might be able to open it. If you can post it and we give it a try.

  • Jerry, I've tried redoing my scene.  The biggest reason I wanted my old .lrt file was the fact that the traffic worked under the underpass correctly.  I'm constantly fighting traffic to stop from jumping up to overpass.  Is there a good trick for this or a setting I may be missing?  I've tried turning off the overpass levels and placing lots of the traffic points through overpass location, but the second i turn on the levels, traffic goes back to hoping on top. I try to keep up with alot of the questions and discussion on here, but I've never been able to get the traffic to consistently work correctly where there are bridges overhead.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and I can't quite explain why it does work when it does.

  • Hi Brian,

I inspected your .lrt and .bak files. It appears the files are truncated, as if the save operation has been aborted in the middle of the process.
Unfortunately in this case it is impossible to restore the file.

  • Bummer.  Thanks for your effort and trying to take a look.

  • I was trying to do the traffic in LumenRT.  I should have used Microstation traffic, is there typically better luck there? Unfortunately I'll have to bail on the exercise for now due to timing.

  • Hi Brian,

Sorry we did not have any luck recovering your file, I am sure running out of disk space was the most likely cause of corruption. If you had it working in MicroStation then it would have exported and worked in LumenRT but as sanity check I tested with a civil data set having a bridge and had no issues getting the traffic placed in LumenRT. I did make sure that when I defined the vehicle paths to place a few points on the road beneath the bridges. I did same for crossing traffic over bridge I made sure to place key points on the bridge above the roadway below. If you have a 3d mouse it makes it a lot easier to quickly place the vehicle path by manipulating the camera like driving down the highway.

If you are still having issues getting it to work perhaps you can upload the packager file of data set to ftp and send me email with the name of the file to jerry.flynn@bentley.com

    Cheers,

    Jerry

  • I did a sanity check myself with the issue I was running into last night. The traffic here was placed in LumenRT.  In the future I'll start doing the traffic in Microstation instead of LumenRT.  I've placed my .lrt file on the ftp site again to show the issue I was running into in LumenRT.  My 3DConnexion mouse is helpful for setting the path and navigating the file.  I was turning off the bridge layers to place the traffic on the highway, making sure to place several points on the highway under the bridge, then turning the bridge on.  I swear I've had this work for me before, but the traffic keep jumping on the bridge now.  I've found a previous higher quality video for my public meeting, just without the final landscaping and the nice fall colors to match this season, so I'm okay for tonight.  I'd just like to eventually figure out why I keep fighting with LumenRT's traffic tools.  Is the solution to just do all of the traffic in Microstation?
