First two videos of the "LumenRT for Beginners" series now available on YouTube

A new series of learning videos for LumenRT is now available on YouTube:

LumenRT for Beginners: Getting Started

LumenRT for Beginners: Plants and Weather (primer)

LumenRT for Beginners: Using 3D Objects

YouTube playlist for the entire series

The intent of this series is to convey the most important aspects of LumenRT using the development of a tropical island resort as the focus of the series.  It is not an in-detail treatise of every feature or tool of LumenRT but more tailored to getting people started. The series begins with a hotel design that may be familiar to some folks (thanks Jerry), to introduce each of the major features of LumenRT in a teaching style that's not too fast or too long (each video is less than 10 minutes).

This is the second series we've done with this new approach, the first being the ContextCapture for Beginners series also hosted on YouTube which has been well received.  This is a new effort to develop a different style of learning video from Bentley that I hope will be agreeable with our users.

  • Third and final video in the fundamentals portion of the series is now available for viewing.  It focuses on placing objects including a quick segment on finding an object (swimming pool) on the web, convert the Sketchup file-based version to VOB for placement in the tropical resort project, how to deal with grass and object surfaces,  then adding a dock object (VOB) designed by Jerry Flynn.  A quick intro to object animation added at the end.  For now, I'm switching gears to another product to continue development of these "beginner videos".  However, I will be returning to the first of the moderate subjects, in this case introduction to animation and sharing of LiveCubes.  See original post for the links to both the third video and the YouTube playlist.  Feel free to pass this along to anyone that's interested in getting started in LumenRT.

Oh, one other thing. There is a link video descriptions to the dataset used to create this project.  It contains the hotel model and the dock VOB, both created by Jerry Flynn (thank you again Jerry!) plus a link to the Sketchup swimming pool model so the new user can duplicate the activities covered in the three videos.

    Thank you.
