Bentley,
Modo releases are:
11.0v1 in 2017/04/20;
11.1v1 in 2017/06/29;
11.2v1 in 2017/11/07;
11.2v2 in 2017/12/19.
This releases and some in between have been coming out and Microstation is still within version 10.1v2 which was release in 2016/07/21.
Are there any news on render engine being updated?
Regards
From looking at the 2018 January visualization SIG, it seems that the render engine from Eon -VUE will be implemented in Microstation.

I've heard that too. This mean that we will lose Modo render or it will not be further upgraded inside Microstation?
José
Im not sure, i guess only someone from Bentley can say for sure.

As helgeh wrote, only Bentley can provide further details. But it makes sense in my opinion: When Bentley owns VUE, LumenRT and other e-on technologies, why to pay (probably now low) license fee to include Modo into MicroStation?
The rendering is more joy and fun for me, but I'd like to experience several years in row when rendering engine in MicroStation will not change (whatever it will be) and the integration will be really tight, dynamic and optimized (e.g. material definitions will be 1:1 with rendering engine features etc.).

I couldn't agree with you more Jan, unfortunately we continue to stay behind in the larger picture in respective areas:
Will this and more be implemented inside Microstation? I'm just guessing but if Pathtracer comes it will be for the output render and not realtime view.
Foundry release a new Modo version - 12.0v1 2018/03/28 just two days ago and apart for new features, a new technology for viewports - GPU real time render with multi sample anti-aliasing.
Very interesting post Jose,
I agree with you that the development of the visualization (not only rendering) part of Bentley products stays a little behind. Take for example a look at this real time view engine in a free open source 3D application (the same of you're advanced modelling examples): https://www.blender.org/2-8/ and https://code.blender.org/2017/03/eevee-roadmap/
And about the rendering part:I know that Eon / Bentley is working very hard with the development of the new Path tracer. Unfortunately this is (still?) not integrated in MicroStation. With the contemporary visualization techniques in Bentley products it's very difficult to compete. After all, a client will judge many of the visitors of this community not by how much fun they had or how fast the rendertimes where, no, they where only judged by the quality of the result.
This has resulted for me that I use an other render engine for projects that are demanding high quality results.

Hello Louis,
You are absolutely right!
I'm too using an external rendering program.
I was losing customers by the dozen because I cough not compete.
Architectural modeling in MS is still the best. Otherwise I had to say goodbye to Bentley and move enterely to AutoDesk.
