I am trying out materials in V8i SS3 and want to use a grey block but it's too dark. How can I make this material lighter?
PS.
I also want to make the blocks bigger
Hi J-Worker
Making the texture lighter:Ther's a slider that says Dark-Bright that will alter the amount of light that bounces off (diffuse) from the geometry. If that doesn't do the trick, you can move the slider Solid-Pattern which will either display a solid color of your choice (in your case white) or a pattern... or anything in between. In the Settings menu you can select Advanced, which will give more accurate descriptions of the sliders. Look into it and deside wether it suits you needs.Making the texture appear bigger/smaller:Press the little arrow left of Units. The dialog will expand and here you can change the scale by entering a desired value. Also you can click the tiny blue checkered cube, which will open a dialog allowing you to either move, scale or rotate manually on the geometry.Note considering appearance of textures:The preview mode (shade vs luxology) can differ a lot. At some point you'll have to deside which one you want to use for your final output.
I hope this helps you on your way.

If you want to make it appear brighter mover the slider that is labeled Dark - Bright to make it brighter this changes the Diffuse value the amount of light (color) that is reflected. To change the size click the small down arrow and change the units to be something other than Master then you can make that pattern tile the size you want.

Hey Ivo. Thanks for the input. That helped me discover a few useful functions that were previously hidden but it didn't solve my issue with the brightness. Maybe I need to turn on lights or sun or something?
Thanks Jerry, but the Dark - Bright toggle doesn't seem to show any difference. See my images below
Toggle - DARK
Toggle - BRIGHT
