Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to get materials to copy from a dgnlib to a DGN file on use?
I have many materials applied to meshes via element templates and others by level and they are not copying locally, even using the MS_LOCAL_MATERIALS config variable. I really don't want to be having to provide the client with a dgnlib just to see materials for the dgns we produce.
Hi Mark,
You could create a new palette and import all the materials you are using from the dgnlibs into it.

Thanks Jerry,
So if i had a palette in my seed with all my dgnlib materials, all materials would be read directly from dgn?

Yes that would be correct you would have local copies in that palette.
Excellent, thanks Jerry!
Hi Jerry, unfortunately no luck after making a local copy.
What im trying to do is have a self contained DGN that will allow users of Microstation without our material dgnlibs to see the materials
Any ideas?
Okay I found that if you import our definitions these will likely still show up being read from our dgnlib, if you don’t want that then use unique names for your materials, also when you create the seed file you need to click on Table in Material Editor then Local Materials > Copy to Library. After doing this when you create a new file from that seed file the material definitions should be in the newly created file.
Let me know if this works.
Cheers,
