Does LumenRT permit clients select phases of a project?

Hello,

We are evaluating LumenRT and would like to know if there is a means to permit clients to view different stages of a project. My understanding is that you have that capability in Lumion and TwinMotion (although I am not a user of either). I would greatly appreciate any information that can be provided on this. It would be very useful for us if there is a way to turn on and off layers -- or project phases (or any other means to show different project stages).

THANKS

  • Boy, this is disappointing to me as a prospective customer to not be able to get a simple question answered like this. Does Bentley have anyone monitoring this forum? Do other users help out and answer stuff like this? We just need to know if there is a way to show project stages to a client.

  • Hi Mark - I'm afraid you're not likely to get a comprehensive response from Bentley. They're adequate at response to the occasional technical question - but as your question is more around creative use of the software, they would probably leave you to invent a method. From experience - t answer your question; No. There is no out-of-the-box "phasing" switch. LumenRT handling of layers is really clunky, so assigning phase_1 walls to Layer "phase_1" if not practical. Driving everything from Microstation with Models as Reference files would be the best way - but LumenRT only builds a live cube ONCE (from the DGN you export to it), and cannot distinguish between individual reference files. You are also not able to export various versions of a model (Phase 1, Phase 2, etc). and expect to have identical saved views or movie keypoints appear in the live cube (unless you overwrite identically named versions of the same livecube, and piece together a phasing sequence with an independent movie editor.

As I said - quick answer to your question is no. LumenRT is missing both the functionality and elegance of cad software, and in my opinion still has a long way to go before it replaces the power and flexibility offered by the cad environment.

  • Max, I truly appreciate you taking the time to respond to my query (and your informative and very helpful explanation). That will help us assess the product fairly. I thank you VERY MUCH.
