MicroStation Connect Edition Update 11, massive problems with distributed Rendering

Hallo,

we have a very big issue with distributed Rendering in Connect Edition. Starting a job from the "render multiple" script causes the following problem, when using distributed Rendering:

Description:

1. We set up 3 pictures in a script.

2. In the job Monitor it´s correctly shown 3 pictures will be produced.

3. But, if we have 3 machines in the job. Every machine produces 3 pictures. We so get 9 pictures. For every additional machine a copy is produced. So we get every picture 3 times.

Any idea about solving this problem.

Have we to specify a certain Workset in the render multiple skript options or what could cause that problem?

We would be very happy for any advices on this issue.

Thanks

Gerd

  • Hi Gerd,

My guess would be this never worked I don't think we envisioned using DR for Save Image Multiple and it is not hooked up for that.

We did envision DR being used to render a single high resolution image so that multiple machines could chime in on a single image render.

If you have multiple saved views from a single design and you want to render these with DR you could create an animation script with all the saved views no in between frames or motion blur and that would render your images as frames.

I believe that DR with save image multiple is on our to do list.

    Cheers,

    Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,

but we render a lot of stuff over these scripts. Here is an example script. Light-Setup ANSICHT-02 is always marked red. Probably this is a bug. But this does not matter, because nevertheless the pictures are rendered correctly. Would be nice, if you have a look on this red-marking problem.

In the top-level menu it´s the 3. Point "Distributed Rendering". At the moment it works, if only one Machine is in the group. Than you can chose from your Work-Place which machine handles the rendering. Par example Thorsten is ill. So someone can easily use his machine for rendering purposes. So he can switch to Thorsten´s Group in the "Distributed Processing Settings" and render the images on that computer. That works fine. If we use two or more Computers, they are producing duplicate Renderings. Our BIMG are saved in the out File from the workset, but using another work set mode like " Do not specify a work set" doesn´t change anything.

By the way, we've heard that Luxology is being replaced by Vue as a render engine. Is this correct? We are spezialized in visualization topics, so that is very important for us to know, if this engine will change.

    kindly regards

    Gerd

  • Hi Gerd,

Yes I have seen the light setup appear in red but still work so this is a minor bug I will make sure we have a TR on this.

Just know that we have not added true support for DR to work with Save Image Multiple other than what you are currently seeing. It is on our to do list to add support for DR with Save Image Multiple at some point in the future.

Yes we are adding VUE's render engine to MicroStation there is no plan to remove Luxology at the moment. You will be able to choose which render engines you want to use. That being said we are no longer taking updates from Luxology and new visualization features going forward will only be available with VUE and not with Luxology.

If you have some complete scenes you will to share with me for testing to compare VUE to modo that would be a helpful, send me offline email jerry.flynn@bentley.com we hope to have technology preview next year.

    Cheers,

    Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,

thanks for your answer. I am glad to hear, that Luxology Renderer will not disappear from one MicroStation-version to another and that we can use both in the near future. GPU-Rendering is the big theme at the moment. But there are big quality differences between the render-engines. We are very curious about it

I will search for a project, which I can send you.

    Have a nice day

  • For the Light Setup showing as not found, I have created a defect - 977871

  • Ok, thank you for that.

You know, we have posted an issue with light manager a while ago. It was fullfilled as a defect, but is not yet corrected. If you change a model and Luxology Render Window is open, the light setup in the model is not updated. That means you have the wrong global lights in the model. Probably this issue has to do something with that. By the while did you look after the older defect meanwhile. When will the bug be solved?

Workaround for all users at the moment. Keep Light Manager open all the time you work in a DGN-file. Than it works, even if you change the internal model. If you don´t know that, you go crazy.

    Kind regards

    Gerd
