CE display override bug with CVE

V8i setting a display override by element works with cached views and translations making it possible to always force the display style of any element regardless of presentation.

CE this doesn't work the cached views ignore the display override and makes the element hidden.

  • Hi Grant,

what MicroStation CE version? There have been 12 versions released, so to specify in what version the issue was found is crucial.

Don't you have some test case you can share? To simulate and setup properly cached view with style and override is not simple, so it's easy to end with different configuration.

    With regards,

  • Jan,

It's a bit more complicated because we're running ABD but the ABD people consider this a "Microstation issue" when I've had things like this come up so i come here.  (till a year ago we exclusively ran Microstation and only recently adopted ABD)

That being said it would include up to MS-CE - U11 per the ABD U4 patch notes

As for setup if you make the following display style in V8i...

Now apply that display style directly to an element like a line in this case given it's a Center Line display style...

The end result is the following in v8i & CE respectively with a cashed hidden line view.

This has proven a very effective way to maintain modeling Center lines in drawings with duct work, pipes & equipment center lines we want to keep for datum purposes.

We've created a similar override to force objects to not show any hidden lines ever which works well with auxiliary modeling items like vendor equipment, 3D people, and any other object that hidden lines are not necessary and just clutter a drawing.  This was something we manually did before adopting dynamic views by cleaning up old EVE's, this solution was a requirement for us to create the high quality drawings our customers expect.

If this is somehow actually an ABD specific issue then i'll attempt to take it up with that side of the company but so far it's been a challenge to resolve "MS" related issues with that side.

  • Jan,

See below, i was baffled for most of this morning on why i couldn't reply to this thread anymore apparently you have to "Join" the visualization forum to reply to your own thread that seemed much harder then it should have been.  The same file works in both V8i & CE just switch the cached views to dynamic and back to see the result.  (a refresh will not provide the same result you must switch them to dynamic then back to cached)

  • Hi Grant,

I tried in with MicroStation only and it worked.  It showed the center line in cached display mode.

I'll ask someone to check in ABD & reply here.

    Thanks

    Nilesh

  • Any chance you could include a screen shot from CE of the cached views?  Also did you just refresh the cached views or toggle them to dynamic and back to cached?  If you don't force them back to dynamic then cached it doesn't actually refresh the display.

  • I toggled it from Dynamic to Cached & we are getting the same result with ABD update 4. Could you check on any other workstation.

Do you have any other display related configuration set ?

  • That is weird I think i might have found the issue tho...  What are you CVE settings?  If i uncheck the hidden edge overrides like below it works.

If we check these boxes and then it doesn't work...

Thanks the help i'll have to go review our v8i settings to see what they are.
