You can do it in the properties of the object.

And by opening the Materials tool pallets from File \ Settings \ toolboxes.

Yes. Model was/is indeed a 2d-model.

But in MSv8i i could attach/assign materials to shapes/levels even in a 2d-model. Is this not longer possible?

There is a big clue in the screenshot. Accudraw is only X & Y not XYZ so must be a 2d file.

Yes this could be a possibility that you are using the 2D file.

In that case you will not get the Visualization Ribbon.

You're in a 2d file not a 3d file. That's why you don't have the visualzation tab.
