LumenRT - solar reflection on ground

I have a scene with a mapped ground layer.

For some reason, the sun reflects off this surface - even though it has no reflective or specular material attributes.

Is there any way I can switch the sun's visibility off (while retaining its presence for lighting and shadows)? Are there other material attributes I need to adjust?

I don't recall this happening in previous versions of LumenRT.

Thanks,

Max

  • Is this video visible in my post? I click on it and it disappears.

  • Trying again to "Insert video" from the post editor - Bentley, please fix this if it's a bug in your Bentley Communiites posting editor.

  • Thanks for your suggestion, Vincent. I did try changing Sun Flare's Strength and Size settings, with no change. I tried all other settings in the Rendering options too.

A solution would be to move the sun - but I can't do that because later in the video it needs to coincide with shadow positions on the ground.

    All other suggestions welcome!

  • even though it has no reflective or specular material attributes

Is this comment based only on the MicroStation material settings, or have you also checked the specular and reflective settings of that materials inside LumenRT too?

It appears to be a reflection or specular highlight rather than a lens flare because it is very noticeably on the ground as it crosses the intersection.

I would check the LumenRT material settings and make sure the Type is Standard and the Specular values are zero.

  • That could be Ron but it looks like Max is using update 14 then the materials are going to be PBR.

Max, try setting Roughness to 100 % for that material. If that does not help let me know, I might need your test case to investigate further.

    Cheers,

    Jerry

  • Thanks Ron, and Jerry - I had tried all those settings previously (even tried setting Roughness to 200%). The Microstation material has Specular and Reflect = 0, Opacity = 100. LRT material (un-tweaked from the Microstation export) Type = Standard, Roughness= 50, Metallic = 0. There is no Specular setting.

I'll try to set up a small sample file as a test case.

  • Ok - problem solved... I had been exporting to LumenRT from V8i - the problem goes away when exporting the same file from CONNECT Update 13. I'd be curious to know what happens in the export process that creates this difference. - Jerry?
