Can anybody suggest me some good rendering settings for outdoor in Microstation v8i? When I render a view its comes black.

I am trying to render a view in microstation v8i. I want render an outdoor area. the 3D model view is shown below. But when I render with default lighting off, Setup: Material preview,Environment: Physical sky... it comes dark. Can you suggest me some good light settings to render for an outdoor scene.

Render output:

  • If you remove default lighting (only good while actually modelling) then you need to set up "real" lighting in the light manager.

I would first create an empty "Scene" file in which to set up lighting, non model stuff like trees/cars/people, attach materials etc. Just reference your design into this scene file and swap it out the reference with updated versions/options to keep consistent rendering settings.

For external, day light, you should only need to turn on the Solar (sun) light and position it. Use full intensity, and use the cloudiness slider to share this solar light with the rest of the sky -  so also turn on the sky dome. I use a value of about 80.

Ambient light and flashbulb are not needed turn them off.

The environment also acts like a kind of light source, so its all a bit of a balancing game, to find the values you want.
