Could anybody point me to a good resource to understand the differences between these? When to assign and when to attach material and how this applies to Luxology as well. I would be very happy to know about these.
Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Rabi
Hi Rabi,
There are many ways to handle this, here is how I do it:
I use assignment by color for common materials. Materials such as concrete, steel, white walls etc. I assign using a wildcard on the level, something like *:23 which looks for color 23 on any level.
I use attachment for graphic treatments, people images, unusual project specific materials that will not be used again.
Best wishes,
-Gary
I used attachments for cells that I could use in any design, by using attachments you don't have to worry about conflicting with a color and level assignment because attachments take precedence over assignments. Assignments are easy especially for digital terrain models where you have thousands of triangles, assign a material to one triangle and the assignment works for all of the other ones provided they are the same color and on the same level.
