U15/U16 - Level overrides overriding materials

In recent versions U15 and U16, I am finding that Level Overrides are messing with render settings. Whereas previously using a shaded display style would show the materials, it now appears that the opposite is the case and overrides have to be turned off to display correctly?

  • Looking further into it, it now appears as though ByLevel Material Overrides are finally working, which is brilliant btw, long awaited, just shouldn't be getting overridden by the ByColour override setting

  • Hi Paul, do you have any further information on this. It is getting very confusing.

From my understanding the below is happening.

Material attachments override material assignments in Live files.

Material assignments will override Reference element material attachments (and assignments). Materials cannot be attached to reference elements.

I can assign Materials by level, and can now also attach materials as a level override so the 2 seem to be now interlinked.

Now, If i am in a master file, as I said above I can assign materials to override reference materials, however I cannot attach a material to override, BUT because attachments now work as overrides, if level overrides are on in the master file, the assigned material will be overridden by a colour if a colour override is set. If not, the original element attachment will display.

Additional to this, If I now attempt to render a view, overridden by colour (B&W hidden line view) the view renders with the colours, but displays the pattern textures from the original element material attachment.

As I said, So very confusing and probably needs a video to demonstrate properly.

  • Hi Duncan,

Do you have any environment variables set for materials if so what are they as these can change behaviour ?

Material attachments will override material assignments in their local file.

Material assignments should not override material attachments in reference files.

You can assign materials to levels, and level overrides, the level overrides will only apply if you have the view option for level overrides, material assignments take priority over materials assigned to levels.

Best to email me direct if you have an example file or video you want me to look at.

    Regards

    Paul
