[SS10 08.11.09.931] Luxology removed

Removal of the Luxology rendering engine in order to be compliant with Foundry’s terms and agreement with Bentley Systems.

Just wondering what does that point mean exactly for 08.11.09.931?

Best regards,

  • Hi Tuan,

    Just wondering what does that point mean exactly for 08.11.09.931?

    What is not clear on "removal of the Luxology"? ... Luxology is not included in this "last version" of MicroStation V8i.

    From V8i help:

    This update of V8i SS10 does not support Luxology Rendering. Features related to Luxology Rendering
    are removed. However, you can export to Luxology (.lxo) files and render in Modo. For more advanced
    rendering capabilities you should switch to the latest update of MicroStation CONNECT Edition which
    supports the more advanced VUE render engine.

    The following dialogs are no longer available:
    * Luxology Render Dialog
    * Effects Manager Dialog

    Effectively it means that the latest MicroStation V8i does not contain any usable advanced rendering engine. Even when you can open old rendering tools, that were developed for MicroStation before Luxology was licensed, my experience is that they always crash MicroStation.

    The discussed removal only follows what happened already in MicroStation CE: Because Bentley decided to integrate VUE from e-On Software (owned by Bentley), there is no reason to pay license fee to Foundry company. And, probably, there is some agreement when and how Modo engine has to be removed from Bentley products. The difference is that in MicroStation CE, Luxology is still available, but locked (so Bentley has to be asked for unlocking key), and VUE is available, whereas in V8i ... there is nothing (probably not big surprise because of expiring V8i support).
