background using vue render in microstation

Hi There,

I'm hvaing trouble getting a background to be visible in a vue render from Microstation. Anyone got any ideas where I'm going wrong?

The view dialog box with a vessel rendered, but showing a black background.

The Atmosphere editor dialog box, on the Environment Map tab, with Environment Map ticked and a image selected and a Mapping mode of Cylindrical.

The vue render dialog is pointing to the Atmosphere preset of 'Myles' which has the Environment Map set as above. To my understanding the sky background should be rendered?

What am I doing wrong??

Cheers,

Myles.

  • Hi Diego,

    Ah, ok then!

I entered 40 in, this time during the rendering process the background appeared when the image was rendering/ calculating the 'squares' of the image. But once this was complete and the finished image was displayed on screen, the background image dissapeared and was replaced by the black background.

it also looks like the background image is rotate 90 degrees but that'll be simple to sort out. Although as the material jp image is a panoramic image in landscape I find it odd it is automatically set 90 degrees off [anyway this is a different issue - more an observation, and is not important right now]

  • Hi Myles,

have you tried to use an HDRI set to Spherical?

  • Hi Diego,

Thanks, I appreciate your time and suggestions.

I've tried with a .hdr file, it seems to do the same as the jpg. The render process where it blocks the image in shows a background image, bit when the process finished the vue render loses the background as shows just black.

Are there any other ways to get a background in using the vue renderer?

    Cheers,

    Myles.

  • I've had a play with a different method to render the image. Using the Record script button

pointing all the options on the record script dialog box to the same settings used for the single shot vue renderer

the resulting image is rendered correctly with the background showing

The image used as the background id a .hdr file

Is there away to scale the background image? I have seen options to rotate the background.

I cant really tell which portion of the background hdr is shown in the rendered image. How would I go about getting the background hdr moved around to show the sun behind the vessel? other than randonly rotating the background hdr - rendering an image, then repeating this process? is there a way to do this 'interactivley'?

  • Hi,

You can use a vue atmosphere which has an environment map as a background in a display style. you can then use the sliders on the environment option button to shift the image in the microstation view, this will then update the atmosphere settings for the render.. You can then choose "None" as your atmosphere so it picks up the display style including the rotation & offset.

    So display style dialog.

    Atmosphere dialog.

    Microstation view

    Render dialog
