I have been doing it for years and it is suddenly not working. Has Bentley reduced features since I have not upgraded? I have several water pictures that I have used for years and suddenly they are not available.
Could someone explain to me what I am doing wrong now?
and now even when I pick one from open palette, it is not working now. what is going on? I pick a material from import, and attach it. Nothing. My rectangle is just a grey blob. Any ideas?
when do local materials, I have the pictures with the DGN file, update from library is greyed out
sometimes the link to the pattern file is not picking up correctly when the dgn file is loaded. Check if your "pattern image" (cannot remember the correct name) configuration variable is pointing to the right folder, And of course, double check if you still have your water images at the right place.

What do you mean with this? What rexctangle? Do you mean the preview in the material editor? Can you post a screengrab of what your seeing?

To elaborate on Nikolay's reply:
Perhaps your Workspace or a part of it was moved due to a new install of the software or a migration of libraries by IT. That should not be a very big problem however. First you need to find out where the images are (or were) located. I can not help you with that, but your company's CAD guy may. When you've found the images (check C:\WorkSpace\System\materials\Patterns), you need to point microstation to that location.Go to pull down menuWorkspace > Configuration > Rendering/images > Pattern Maps (This will define the config called MS_PATTERN)Click EditChange Edit Mode to Append.Write your path in the New Value box.OkOkExit and restart Microstation
