I never really got the grip on animating in Microstation, and most of my attempts have ended in the Recycle Bin. In the last few weeks I've tested some new features and made a few new attempts to learn more about the animation possibilities in Microstation. Here is a short animation I just made. As always in my tests, the model is very simple - just a piece of wood and some chrome balls (pretty boring - I know! :-)).
Anyway - I have the feeling that animation in Microstation is evolving on the right track.
The animation is rendered in HD format (HDTV - 720x1280) and animated in 25fps. Rendered with DoF and bokeh effects in Microstation SS3. The quality shpuld be OK even in full screen view (please try it!), but I still have a lot to learn about quality settings, scene transitions, camera movement, audio tracks etc... Have a look and tell me what you think:

Wauw! Very nice and original example of the new animation tools. How long did it take to render this?
It strikes me that the number of images I see from you in the gallery('s) are a little reduced :-).
Thanks Louis.
My computer has been busy rendering out frames lately, no time for sill images testing. :-)
Rendering time for each frame varies from 2-4 minutes. Modeling, lighting and materials was done in and hour or so - the rest is just a lot of rendering time. I've used saved views for the camera path (IMO much easier than seting up a camera path and animating the camera manually)
Very nice work Kurt.
What are the differences between SS3 and SS2? Have new tools been added, or are the old ones just improved?
thanks Sean, some new tools have been added, and I hope this is the starting point for an animation tools "make-over".
The Traffic Simulation tool is what interests me a lot.
