A good starting point is reading these blogs here.
communities.bentley.com/.../default.aspx
It is not a beginners tutorial, but it does help a lot.
Drop me an e-mail and I'll send you a Luxology overview I downloaded from this site. I can not find the download itself any longer, but I do have the file here. It should have gotten into a Wiki IMHO

There is the 154-page "Luxology Render Technology Preview" PDF document that was created for MicroStation V8i SELECTseries 1. There have been subsequent updates and new functionality added. That said, the idea of putting that in this community's wiki does have some merit... it would take a bit of effort, but that could certainly be considered.
THAT is the one I meant.
The document still states at the first page that it is about SELECT Series 1. :) I have three different versions of this file now. It looks very current to me and has me eager to see what's in store this autumn.
Great..
I should recomment this site to my collegues and friends.
really this is a powerfull site for microstation beginners..
really VERY VERY POWERFULL!!!!!!!
Thanks to "Phil" and "Ivo".
Thanks to all
Since we use Luxology's rendering engine, some of their tutorial videos can prove incredibly helpful when learning how to render inside of MicroStation. The UI may be different, but all of the settings talked about in these videos can be manipulated in our Render Settings dialog. If there's something that they mention that you can't find, it might be placed in the "Advanced" tab, but don't let that scare you! The "Advanced" tab is mostly just a consolidated list of what you'll see in the normal sections.
Here's a list of the videos that I found to be useful when I was learning about the Luxology engine:
Indirect Illumination Explanation: www.luxology.com/.../view.aspx
Optimizing for Large Resolution Renders: www.luxology.com/.../view.aspx
Displacement Ratio Discussion: www.luxology.com/.../view.aspx
Optimizing with Transparent Materials: www.luxology.com/.../view.aspx
The first on the list will probably prove to be the most useful until you're more comfortable with V8i rendering, but I've found the rest of them to be incredibly helpful.
HTH,
Evan
I forgot to mention this in the last post, but I also like this book quite a bit for general lighting and rendering information:
www.amazon.com/.../ref=sr_1_1
It does a good job of covering general lighting and rendering techniques without getting too far into any particular kind of software.
