In SS3 is it possible to force a Distributed Rendering to start at a specific PC/Blade rather than randomly finding the nearest one available. I have a client that has 5 blades available but the DR never finds them, but prefers to find other PCs first.
Thus, a waist of a very powerful render farm/blade and time consuming.

HI Ian,
have you looked amd making the Blades a meember of a processing group called something obvious like "blades", then putting the pcs into a group called "pcs". this might give you some level of control by directing certain jobs to certain groups.
I havnet had the chance to try this in the field so please take this reply as a light suggestion.

Hi Brendon
Thanks for the help. sadly, creating a group does not help.
I have installed MicroStation on the blade, created a group on the Blade, set DR running on 18 processors on the blade.
But the render still prefers to use my PC, even if I overload the PC
I want it to have a preference and that is to use the Blade first.
Thanks
Some screenshots of the group set on the blades and the settings used at the local machine might help. Also you have to remember that setting a group needs a restart of the DR controller process at the blades.
We tested DR at a customers site with different groups. Even rendering without the local machine was no problem. Had a fault with rendering animations, but this seemed to be blamed to the deployment method for installing SS3. No probs with fresh installations.

The first image shows the Blade settings. The lower image shows the DR jobs. Notice that they dont appear in the lower section. The user DR settings show the same info
st image is from the Balde and shows the DR settings.
Ian, have you actually checked that the blades are not processing (task manager)...I often do not see pc's in lower area, although these render.
