V7 Tree palette

In Microstation v8i I can't seem to find any trees palette. Is the old v7 tree palette available in v8i? if not how can I obtain some trees tif or jpg's to render?

Thanks

Curt

  • Hi Curt,

We deliver a sample of 3D render ready trees from Xfrog with SELECTseries 3, do you have that? If so and you installed MicroStation with the Visualization Content they would be in the program data\bentley\sharedcontent \xfrog_samples folder. You can paint in these 3D trees using the new Populate Tool in SS3 and they just render beautifully with materials attached no fuss.

BTW Xfrog will be posting 140 Free plants in MicroStation format in the next couple of days. They now have their complete library of over 3000 3D MicroStation render ready plant models available for purchase.

  • Thanks Jerry for the info.

First, what is Xfrog? I'm a user and do not get involved in any installations of Microstation so not sure about the Selectseries 3 installs.

Second, you mention the "Populate Tool". Way back in Ms v7 I wrote a randon tree MDL that was in the Microstation manager magazine. After this was published I received an email from Ray Bentley himself (In a frame right now) saying ahow well the MDL was written and how he would forward it to the viz group. This "populate tool" isn't a random tree (cell) placement tool, by any chance?

I finally looked back on my old MDL and got it working for v8i and that's why I'm looking for the trees.

Thanks again for your reply and if you could share some images of the trees I'd appreciate it.

  • Hi Curt,

Here is link to Xfrog www.xfrog.com

I have attached PDF that covers the Populate Tool and as you will see it does much more than just place trees, it also drops the 3D content on to the ground or model correctly. I will try to post a video later that show how to use the tool, you can literally paint the 3d models into your scene.

    Cheers,

  • Thanks or the info Jerry,

So Xfrog is not developed by Bentley but is included in the Select Series 3, right? This looks like it's up with 3D Studio Max graphics. Good job.

I'll have to talk to the IT group to see if I can get the SS3 installed.

    Thanks again

  • Xfrog is a 3rd party content provider that graciously let us deliver a really nice sample of their trees with MicroStation V8i SELECTseries 3.

    Cheers,
