When recording a script the background sky image isn't showing up when the method is set to smooth? It shows up in the view I'm recording and if I choose luxology it is there too, but it doesn't show up in the preview window while recording or in the final image file. Any Ideas? I'd really like to record w/luxology but I don't have a week to wait around for it to produce the images, so I have to use smooth as my recording method.
You need to use Smooth with Environment so that the spherical or cylindrical environment persist in the view. You can set the environment using the display styles dialog. You don't want to animate with a static background you need to use either cylindrical or spherical environment.

Thanks Jerry.
Not sure will have to check with the DirectX folks I am sure if would could have made it work we would have, so I am pretty sure this limitation was a display issue. In the meantime I would use Luxology to render your frames instead of smooth.
I would have used Luxology if I had enough time (about a month of available CPU time) to generate the images. The smooth images look ok for what we needed, the only problem now is finding a video editing package that can handle 81gb of images, even if they are broken up into segments. Does anyone have suggestions as to which affordable editing packages would be up to the task, i.e. Adobe premier, Cyberlink power director, etc.?

I use virtualdub with avisynth for compiling animations. not fancy, but does the job + the price is right :)
