experience with fbx export?

what exactly are you trying? do you use some vertical product (Aecosim)? what is the message after export (should be "export successful" what application do you use to open exported FBX?

I am trying to create a fbx file to send to a guy so he can make renderings of my model.

I stopped using ABD so cannot test it here, anyway plain 3D from MS exports correct FBX files. have you tried to export data from the pure MS (just to avoid locked elements by ABD)?

btw, I suppose the rendering guy is using some Adesk product (Max, Maya) as he asks for FBX. you could try him with OBJ file instead .. could you share part of the model to test?

thanks for answer and suggestions. He asked for fbx - so I try fbx first.

Good to here it works from ustn. That is one alternative route.
