Rendering

Maybe this is an old thread, i don't know. I would like to know if microstation is interesting in the future in using anothers plugs-in as renderer engines inside the program. Luxology is great and I know we can export the geometry to others softwares but  there are always a lot of issues and it is not very useful if have to update the geometry. I tell this because the other day I discovered Corona renderer and I made some tests.I think it will be very interesting have these kind renderers inside Microstation. I leave here two links if you are interested. The first one is the corona renderer new web and the second one is a blog that I use to learn a lot of things because there are a lot of free models, examples, tutorials and things like that. By the way, the floor generator plug-in is very outstanding. Is that kind of plug-in possible in Microstation?. Thank you.

  • I would suggest that you look at Luxology's gallery pages to see what our render engine is capable of. Unfortunately most of our users are not allowed by their client's to post images as freely to our gallery. On the other hand most of the engineering and architectural renders posted on Luxology's gallery were done for marketing and advertising purposes and not for design. We use the exact same render engine as modo and you can certainly get this same quality of renders with MicroStation.

As far as unbiased render engines like Corona or Maxwell most of our users prefer the speed of Luxology and are no longer as interested in these third party renderers as they were a few years ago before we added Luxology. We gave our export code to Next Limit and they employed a developer to continue with the development of the plug-in. My guess is that the number of sales generated by the handful of users still wanting their software has greatly diminished and no longer warrants their continued development. I could be wrong, so I would suggest that you contact Next Limit directly to see if they have any plans to update their plug-in.

  • Hi Jerry. Lots of thanks for the answer and the links. I did not want to disturb or criticize. I'm sorry. As I said in my first thread I am very happy with the luxology engine inside microstation. It has been a very great evolution: it is fast and the quality is great . I just wanted to know if MS in the future wanted to use more renderers like v-ray or corona or integrate other softwares like VUE, iToo Software, AXYZ, etc.. Obviously I know it's very difficult. When I saw corona, biased and unbiased, I thought it would be a good idea to propose. Nothing else. Thank you again.
