Rendering

Maybe this is an old thread, i don't know. I would like to know if microstation is interesting in the future in using anothers plugs-in as renderer engines inside the program. Luxology is great and I know we can export the geometry to others softwares but  there are always a lot of issues and it is not very useful if have to update the geometry. I tell this because the other day I discovered Corona renderer and I made some tests.I think it will be very interesting have these kind renderers inside Microstation. I leave here two links if you are interested. The first one is the corona renderer new web and the second one is a blog that I use to learn a lot of things because there are a lot of free models, examples, tutorials and things like that. By the way, the floor generator plug-in is very outstanding. Is that kind of plug-in possible in Microstation?. Thank you.

  • Hi Alex,

    The plug-in maintainer here.

With regard to Maxwell Render 3 - the MicroStation plug-in is undergoing a final Beta cycle and will be likely released within a couple of weeks.

I will surely post here (with Bentley permission) a heads-up note the very moment it happens.

On the other hand, if you want to contribute to Beta phases of plug-in's development you can apply at Next Limit for the Beta tester status. This will give you access to non-public forums at NL where this stuff is discussed.

The most important requirement there is that you are really prepared to put some time aside for documenting test-cases which are demonstrating any problem you may find.

    Cheers,

  • Hi Chris thanks for chiming in here and yes please feel free to post updates related to the plug-in here.

    Thanks

  • Hi Chris, happy to hear you

    beautiful, wonderful news

    thanks

I use Luxology , as well know, is one of the engines faster, it's a great engine,

but what I meant in my previous post , is that there is no choice , there are no third-party plugins , if we look at all the other software , they have a huge selection , We unfortunately do not have

You have done a great great job to supplement Luxology in MS , but many things are still missing , such as saving the irradiance map , the render region, editor materials, etc...

For what it is Microstation , I do not think this is right.

Example Maxwell , fortunately now being updated, I remind you that the development of the first plugin was started in 2006 , if I'm not mistaken , with you and Ray , then the block, then the recovery, and so on.

I have 8 licenses maxwell , I believed in the engine since the alpha version

Another thing , octane render, wonderful, being developed for everybody, but for us NO,

    the requests are not there.

In short, what I mean is that given the immense capabilities of MS , we should have the possibility to choose between various motors, as it happens to others.

And I do not speak to export the geometry and working with standalone , it is not productive .

Best wishes for a Happy Easter to all

    Alex

  • Alex,

I agree with you we need more third parties willing to join Bentley Developer Network and create these plug-ins though we don't have the resources to do it for them. I believe the LumenRT plug-in is a great example of what can be done. We helped the along the way but they did most of the work. If  Otoy wanted to create plug-in for Octane Render we would welcome them to do so.

Probably getting request from users like yourself would spark their interest;-)

    Cheers,

    Jerry
