This animation is a walk-thru of a proposed wildlife over-crossing being used by a deer to safely cross over 7 lanes of traffic on Interstate 90 in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State,
I saw your big fly thru on here and wanted to ask some about materials... Would you care to share how you got your grass materials to look so good, as well as how you got the pavement to show the darker region between wheelpaths?
On the fly-thru animation from 2014, I used a bspline surface for the roadway and applied an image similar to this to it with parametric mapping. The image is designed to repeat seamlessly.
The paint stripes were created with the stencil tool in MicroStation and are about 1/2 inch above the roadway surface.
thanks ... i am doing something very similar, but using a glass transparent texture with -10000% reflectivity on top of pavement to apply the oil stripe. I am using a very similar picture but mine is more pixelated. mind if i add your picture to my collection for future use?
also, the bspline surfaces... when you go around a curve, how do you keep the stripes going around a curve. My experience with bsplining grass shows that the UV's from microstation are set in a grid so the grass mow lines go in the same direction... they dont curve with the grass shape. In my current viz project i dropped inroads pavement components down to shapes and applied teh oil stripe to each shape so that it looks right going around the curve. a b spline surface would probably be a lot better/easier but how do you get the material to map around the curves?
