Problem Description

How can I configure the MicroStation Printer Driver printer.pltcfg to print to a specific roll on an HP Designjet?

Steps to Resolve

How to do that?

Open the Printing Preferences (for example) of the HP Designjet T7100 to check the name of the Paper source via Start -> Devices and Printers -> right Mouse click on the HP Designjet T7100 -> Printing Preferences -> Paper/Quality TAB -> Paper Sources -> The names of the Paper Sources are in this case Roll 1, Roll 2 and Roll 3

Close the Printing Preferences

You can edit now the MicroStation Printer Driver printer.pltcfg to print for example to Roll 2.

How to do this:

MicroStation -> File -> Print-> the Print Dialog box is opens ->File -> Select Bentley Driver -> select the Bentley Driver printer.pltcfg -> open -> the Print Dialog box is open -> File -> Edit Printer Driver Configuration -> Base Properties TAB -> Windows Printer ->

You can insert the name of the roll here:

Default Tray Name = Roll 2

After that go to File -> save; File -> exit.

The Print Dialog box is now open go to File -> Reload printer Driver Configuration.

Default tray Name information from MicroStation Help:

Specifies the default paper tray to be selected.  This value can be any valid tray name for the selected printer, such as Tray 1, Manual Feeder, and so on.

When a printer has a choice of trays (or paper sources) you can check the available tray names by clicking the Configure Windows Printer icon in the Print dialog, which opens the system Print dialog. In this dialog, you can select a printer and then view the printer's properties, including that for paper source.

For .plt files only — some manufacturers have used tray names that contain characters outside the normal ASCII printable range. To handle this case, you can enter a question mark (?) in place of any character and the printing system will match the actual name. If the tray name contains spaces or slashes, it must be enclosed in single (`) or double (“) quotation marks. If the tray name contains an inch mark (”), use a pair of single quotation marks
