Generate a MicroStation debug file from a modified shortcut

    Background

A Debug file can be very useful in investigating configuration issues as it contains all the variables contained in all the configuration files processed by MicroStation

    Steps to Accomplish

    1. Right Click on MicroStation’s shortcut

    2. Open the “Shortcut” tab

    3. In the “Target” field add “-debug=5” (without quotation marks) at the end of the line (leaving a blanks space after the quotation marks)

    4. Click “Ok”

    5. Run Microstation, the program won’t open but it will display a dos window executing a script: wait until the script is finished, you will see where the debug file has been saved (by default is MicroStation’s temp folder.

    6. You can now browse to that folder, zip the “msdebug.txt" file and attach to your reply to Bentley Technical Support email.

    7. In order to restore Microstation to normal operations now you only need to remove the ”- debug=5” command line switch from MicroStation’s shortcut (repeat steps 1 and 2 and undo step 3).
