Problem

User would like to create hpgl2 plotfiles without an extension. Editing plotdriver file and blanking out the extension is giving the user a .000 extension. Is there a way to leave the extension blank?

Solution

The 000 is the system-provided default in the event the printer driver configuration file does not provide one. It is not possible to create plot output files without extensions.
