How to modify the reference boundary by dragging the handles

Background

When working in some files, the reference boundary can be modified by dragging handles at the corner of the boundary but in other files, the handles do not appear at all. Modifying the boundary changes what elements are visible from the attached file.

Steps to Accomplish

Most likely, the files where the reference boundary handles can be dragged, are DWG files opened in MicroStation, or, references that have been clipped. If there are no handles available to modify boundary;

  1. Place a Fence around the reference in question
  2. In the References dialog, select/highlight the reference, remember to have Synchronize View = Presentation Only and then click on the Clip Reference tool

  3. The Set Reference Clip Boundary dialog appears, ensure the Method is set to Active Fence
  4. Click in the View to accept, the reference should now be clipped with a new boundary
  5. Left click on the boundary to enable the boundary handles
  6. Click once on one of the handles to resize or modify the boundary
