How the V7 Working Units are defined when saving a V8 or DWG file to V7Product: MicroStation V8Version: 08.XX.XX.XXArea: Save as V7
The resulting V7 units are based entirely on the unit settings in the active V8 file.In V8 the resolution in the advanced unit settings is in Master Units (normally, however it can be set to any unit type)In V7 the resolution (Positional units) is always per Sub Unit (PU per SU).When saving a V8 (or DWG) file to V7, the resolution is checked to see if it can equate to PU per SU. If the calculation does not return an integer (non-decimal) value, the SU will be set to match the MU and the PU will be per MU.Example #1In V8:MU=Meter (M)SU=millimeters (mm)Resolution = 10000 per meterIn V7:MU=MSU=mm1000 mm per M10 PU per SU1000 mm = 1 M10000 PU= 1 M10000\1000 = 10 PU per SUExample #2In V8:MU= Feet (FT)SU=Inches (IN)Resolution = 10000 per FeetIn V7:MU=FTSU=FT1 FT per FT10000 PU per SU12 IN = 1 FT10000 PU= 1 FT10000\12 = 833.3333 (non integer)Note:For a DWG file you can override the default unit settings from the DWG Options General tab before opening the file.
