Problem

Is it possible, in MicroStation, to create a print output longer than an A0, so called an Extended A0. Some print sizes need to be from 5 up to 10 meter.

Solution

Theoretically Bentley drivers are capable to print to max 45 metre. This however depends on the hardware (computer, printer) and file format of the file that needs to be printed.

In order to do so, first a new paper format need to be defined in MicroStation, using the following step:

  1. Open MicroStation and the file that need to be printed
  2. Open de Print dialog; File > Print
  3. Select, under Printer and Paper Size, for 'Bentley driver'
  4. Open the Search and select hpglrtl.pltcfg
  5. Back in Print dialog, go to File > Edit Printer Driver Configuration
  6. On the 'Base Properties'-tab; expand Default Print File Name
In the line 'File Name' specify the printer name that is to be used for the hardcopy
    \\<computername>\<(shared)divisename>, (extension specification not needed)
  7. Then on the 'Paper Sizes'-tab, at the bottom of the list click on 'Add'
  8. In the 'Edit Paper Size(s)'-dialog define a new paper format, for example A0-Extended
  9. Put the 'Units' to 'Millimeters'
  10. In 'Overall paper size' define the maximum paper format, for example 4500 by 849
  11. Click on OK. The new paper format has now been created.
The 'Printer Driver Configuration' can be closed
  12. In the 'Print' dialog you can, under 'Printer and Paper Size' and 'Paper', now select the new paper format

From this point the normal print procedure can be used.
