    Problem

While Importing, the message, "DWG must be shifted to Design Plane" displays. How should it be resolved?

    Solution

    There are 2 options:

    1. Click Ok then click Open. (the import should work correctly but the coordinates of the elements will be different then they are in AutoCAD. This issue happens mostly with Civil Engineers or maps in general that need to be at the correct coordinates).

    2. Click Ok then Click the General>Settings pulldown from the Import dialog box. Place a "check" in the Shift Global Origin setting, this will move our Design Plane to where the importing DWG elements are located. The real-world coordinate will import correctly. If your importing multiple DWG's and they "shift", import the first one, create a seed file then import the rest using that seed file so all the DGN's have the same working units and global origin.

The Shift Global Origin setting will be grayed out if the design plane does not have to shift.
