Problem

Saving a DGN to DWG & the line styles are not displaying correctly or as a Solid line. Working with line styles that will be saved as DWG files and Controlling the Spacing of the lines by the zoom ratio OR the Line Code Scale.

Solution

MicroStation's standard line styles (line codes 1-7) are defined in screen units and are independent of the view zoom factor. AutoCAD linetype definitions are always defined in drawing units and are therefore not compatible with the MicroStation's standard line styles. If you have used the standard line styles in a file that will be saved to a DWG file, you should use a line code scale to determine the pattern size in the resulting file. To set this scale, use the Line Code Scale (Design Units/Cycle) on the Save As DWG/DXF Options dialog box. This setting indicates the size, in drawing units, of a cycle of a pattern once it is transferred to AutoCAD.

How to convert the lines to DWG and have the line styles display as desired:

*Note both examples can vary per design file. In this scenario provided there is not a set standard for the zoom ratio or line code scale. Active LineStyle Scale 'LTSCALE' can also play a role in size ratios.

View 'zoom' Ratio:
If Line Code Scale is set to the default value of 0.0, the lines will be scaled based on the size of the line codes in the first visible view. If the drawing is set the Maximum Extents the lines may appear to display as a solid line versus the desired style. If view settings are set to Minimum Extents the dashes in the line may appear to be spaced further away.

Line Code Scale (Design Units/Cycle):
If the Line Code Scale is set to a non-zero value, this value represents the length (in DWG file units) of a single cycle of the line code pattern. The zoom extents of the view will not be used & the value will set the cycles in drawing units. Applying a value would typically be recommended when batch processing multiple files that may have different zoom extents set per design.

Problem

Saving a DGN to DWG & the line styles are not displaying correctly or as a Solid line.
Working with line styles that will be saved as DWG files and Controlling the Spacing of the lines by the zoom ratio OR the Line Code Scale.

Product: MicroStation
Version: 08.09.01.57
Area: DWG
